The SAEVTOM‑PBN is a modular sample environment designed for use with Ferrovac’s Boomerax manipulators and Omicron-style flag sample plates. It integrates the HSOMPBN50 heating assembly, which features a chemically inert pyrolytic boron nitride (PBN) heating element bonded to a molybdenum receiver plate. A factory-mounted K-type thermocouple (chromel/alumel) enables reliable in-situ temperature measurement.

The housing is manufactured from oxygen-free copper to ensure superior thermal conductivity and efficient heat exchange when mounted to a cryostat. When used with a liquid helium flow cryostat, the sample environment enables a wide operating temperature range from approximately 4 K to 1500 K. With liquid nitrogen cooling, the range is typically ~100 K to 1500 K, depending on the system configuration. For prolonged operation above 800 K, active countercooling is required to protect components and maintain temperature stability.

The PBN heater represents a well-established standard in UHV heating, valued for its high-temperature capability, UHV compatibility, and excellent thermal uniformity. Optional temperature sensors (RTDs or thermocouples) can be installed on request.

Mechanically, the sample environment connects via Ferrovac’s standardized SAE interface and is electrically compatible with ELUCINC22 circular connectors used in Boomerax inserts. Optional versions with linear or rotary adjustment stages are available to enable precise sample alignment or manipulation during thermal treatment.
